Gas sees new low in Turkey's electricity production


As Turkey aims to increase the share of domestic and renewable resources in electricity production to 30 percent by 2023, it is gradually decreasing the share of natural gas in power production.Electricity production from natural gas reached a low in the first quarter of 2016 compared to the same period in previous years, at 21.4 billion KW/hours, meaning in the first quarter 32.6 percent of the 65.7 billion KW/hours of electricity production was obtained from natural gas.According to data from the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry obtained by Anadolu Agency, Turkey had 74.039 MW of installed power by late March. In the first quarter, power production from domestic coal reached 20.4 billion KW/hours, an increase of 2 percent compared to the same period last year. The share of imported coal decreased by about 1 percent in the same period. The share of hydroelectricity resources reached 26.4 percent, marking an increase of 3 percent in the first quarter of 2016 compared to the same period the previous year, with 17.4 billion KW/hours of production obtained from hydroelectricity resources.
