Gazprom execs came to Ankara yesterday with a view to holding talks with their Turkish counterparts to discuss the Turkish Stream pipeline project.

Gazprom CEO Aleksey Miller and his accompanying crew will hold talks in Ankara to discuss the Turkish Stream natural gas pipeline project.

Speaking to Russian news agency TASS, Gazprom Vice President Aleksandr Medvedev said first they will hold meetings regarding the Turkish Stream project and later other energy-related issues will be also discussed during their visit.

While Miller and his crew are expected to meet officials from BOTAŞ Petroleum Pipeline Corporation, the discount issue in the Russian gas imported by Turkey will be on the agenda as well the Turkish Stream project.

Following the start of the normalization period between Turkey and Russia, Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci and Russian Energy Minister Aleksandr Novak held a meeting in Moscow last week to discuss the continuation of the Turkish Stream project.

The Turkish Stream project aims to transfer Russian natural gas to Europe via the Black Sea and Turkey. Under Russian state-owned energy giant Gazprom's plans, the Turkish Stream pipeline will be split into four lines with a total capacity of 63 billion cubic meters a year. In December 2014, Russia scrapped the South Stream pipeline project that would have transported natural gas to Europe via Bulgaria and brought forward the proposed four-line and 63 billion-cubic-meter project that will bypass Ukraine and stretch to the Turkish-Greek border through the Black Sea.
