Hundreds of Turks come together for World Cleanup Day

Hundreds of Turks came together in different parts of Turkey to participate in the September 15 World Cleanup Day initiative.

The initiative involves millions of volunteers from 150 countries to clean up litter and waste in the streets to emphasize the importance of keeping the environment clean.

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's Environmental Protection and Control Department organized many activities and events in the Kadıkoy district. Hundreds of divers picked up litter and waste like sunglasses, batteries and bottles from shores.

According to IBB, there are many teams that inspect the shores and streets of Istanbul: 31 teams, 186 personnel responsible for the cleanliness of the shores, 255 personnel for the beach and 8 specially designed boats for the sea.

Istanbul's Gaziosmanpaşa, Ataşehir and Silivri districts also held various activities to contribute to the initiative. Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Hasan Tahsin Usta and many children took to the streets and picked up rubbish, distributed brochures and warned others that they shouldn't litter.

Other cities in Turkey also took part in the initiative. Ruling Justice and Development Party's (AK Party) Women's Branch in Izmir organized activities for women, cleaning parks, shores, gardens, streets and the sea. Hundreds of women volunteered to participate in the organizations that took place in more than 30 districts.
