Tour agencies change strategy with visa liberalization for Turkey


Tourism agencies in Turkey have changed procedure for a visa-free Europe as the European Commission is expected to announce whether Turkey has fulfilled all the required 72 criteria for visa liberalization today.Tour agencies have predicted that if visa liberalization is approved for Turkey, the number of travelers to Europe will increase up to 50 percent compared to last year's tours, which were around 1 million. They also stressed that weekend travel and short-term holidays to European countries would also increase.Turkish nationals have been facing tough procedures to be granted visas for the EU's Schengen zone countries if they intend to visit and do not have a green passport, which allows the bearer to travel visa-free to Schengen zone countries. To escape the procedure, many Turkish tourists either prefer to vacation at Turkish holiday resorts or in countries that have no visa requirement for Turkish citizens. Many Turkish nationals believe that they are in need of tour operations to travel in European countries, often in exchange for high prices.With expected visa-free travel for Turkish nationals, tour operators are planning to offer quick and simple solutions for hotel and flight reservations. Arranging special discount campaigns, tour agencies are increasing cooperation with hotels in European countries. The reason behind why many Turks prefer tour agencies to travel to EU countries is that the current visa procedure requires many documents that must be sent to visa departments. Tour agencies in Turkey are seen as facilitators for travel to the EU.Pronto Tour Chair Ali Onaran said that they revised their online system and continued: "We think that personal travel to EU countries will increase as people will make their own hotel reservations and buy flight ticket. That is why we are about to create a system that eases booking hotel rooms and flight tickets online."Onaran also said that with promotions such as travel to Cappadocia in central Anatolia is free if you buy a Rome tour, trying to maintain the tour package's current place in tourism.Jolly Tour Abroad Tours head Tolga Tekin predicted that demand for travel to the EU will increase up to 50 percent and they will arrange charter flights to make people prefer their tour agency after visa-free travel to Europe is approved.Ets Tour Abroad Tours head İbrahim Cenk Okumuş said that an increase in road trips and bus tours to EU countries will greatly increase after the EU approves visa liberalization for Turkey."We made all of our plans and we can immediately increase our tour capacity abroad right after visa liberalization," Okumuş said.
