EU to provide 6 million euros to Turkish NGOs


At the fifth period of Turkish-EU civil society dialogue, the EU said it will provide 6 million euros worth of support to civil society organizations in Turkey by the EU.

According to the statement that was released by the EU Affairs Ministry, the call for the fifth period of the EU-Turkey civil society dialogue, which has been conducting within the scope of the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance Context since 2008, was announced on Nov. 20 and is planned to be applied from 2018 to 2020.

The statement also says that the grant program is aimed to create new projects regarding issues related to every chapter title, which will also be created jointly by civil society organizations both in Turkey and the EU.

Three topics have determined to be the preferred areas for the projects. First, development of long-term cooperation and experience sharing regarding the policies and regulations at the local, regional and national levels between civil society organizations from the EU and Turkey. Second, creating awareness among the public regarding the importance of Turkey's EU membership and its possible benefits to the EU, and third, to deepen dialogue between civil society organizations from Turkey and the EU.

The projects will be provided at least 60,000 euros, and 200,000 euros worth of grants at most. Applications for the projects should be sent to the Central Finance and Contracts Unit by Feb. 16, 2018.
