Italian police clash with anti-fascist protesters in Turin


Clashes erupted between Italian police and anti-fascist demonstrators in Turin on Saturday in a rally which leftist groups organized to protest leader of the far-right group Lega Nord, Matteo Salvini, who was scheduled to give a speech in the city.The protest turned violent as riot police clashed with demonstrators and used teargas, excessive force to disperse the crowd.Anti-fascist and anti-racist demonstrators organized the protest against far right groups for and posted on social media under the hashtag #MaiConSalvini — Never With Salvini — a reference to Matteo Salvini, leader of the far-right Lega Nord.The Lega Nord has seen a surge in popularity in post-crisis Italy, riding a wave of anger over austerity measures and growing anti-immigrant xenophobia.
