28-year-old Ebba Busch Thor elected as leader of Sweden’s Christian Democrat Party


Sweden's centre-right Christian Democrat Party elected 28-year-old Ebba Busch Thor as the new leader in the party convention on Sunday. Busch is the first female leader of the party and the youngest chairperson of parliament.Thor was the only candidate for the leadership after former chairperson Hagglund resigned because of the party's failure in the general elections last year.The young leader studied Peace and Conflict Studies in Uppsala University and became a member of Christian Democrat Party in 2006.At a press conference to announce her nomination, Busch Thor told Swedish media: "I am extremely happy and grateful for the confidence that Christian Democrat members and the nomination committee have given me".The Christian Democrat Party has 16 deputies in Swedish parliament and one deputy in European Parliament.
