Germany's most populous federal state, North Rhine-Westphalia has lifted the headscarf ban imposed on state school teachers with a parliament voting on Sunday.In the parliament assembly, Germany's Social Democratic Party, the Green party, the Christian Democratic Party and the Pirate Party voted in favor of lifting the ban while the liberal Free Democratic Party voted against it.In May, the Federal Constitutional Court overturned the headscarf ban, which was imposed in 2003, saying the ban was not in line with the country's constitution.The ban was imposed on the grounds that headscarves could lead to disruption in classrooms and prompt questions about a teacher's neutrality, however, Christian symbols were exempt from the ban.Approximately one million Turks live in North Rhine-Westphalia.
