German authorities plan to double the country's budget for anti-radicalization projects, including Islamic education courses offered at schools in Bavaria, Deutsche Welle reported.Around 94,000 Muslim students go to schools in Bavaria and 11,500 of them take Islam classes at 260 schools. Minister of Culture Ludwig Spaenle announced that they will spend more money on these classes to prevent youngsters Muslims from joining extremist groups such as DAESH.In a press conference organized on Nov. 23, Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann said that the Bavarian government will try to stop people from being recruited as extremists under the pretext of Islamic teaching by certain groups. Parents, who are afraid their children might become radical, will therefore have a chance to enroll them in Islam classes.According to German officials, to prevent youngsters from radicalization is not to marginalize them. If the government signals to them that they care for them, then this is the most important measure against extremism and violence. Also, in order to prevent radicalization, Bavarian police will step up its contact with Muslim communities. To this end, regular discussions will take place throughout Bavaria with the so-called mosque contact officers. The Bavarian government will also provide Islamic lessons in prisons to prevent radicalism. Prison employees will be better trained to spot the already radicalized inmates. The Bavarian Ministry of Justice has accordingly set up a central office under the direction of an Islamic scholar who is to prevent the radicalization taking place in prisons, because prisoners are particularly vulnerable to seemingly great objectives and ideologies.Turkish top cleric Mehmet Görmez previously emphasized the importance of religious education for Muslim Germans and appreciated Germany's efforts in this direction. Görmez said comprehensive religious education and religious freedom will prevent people from joining extremist groups such as DAESH.Germany has the second-largest Muslim population in Western Europe after France. Among the 4 million Muslims in the country, 3 million are of Turkish origin.
