Late Italian teacher donates 800,000 euros to charity, left in morgue

An Italian teacher's body, who donated all her assets approximately worth 800,000 euros to university and charities before passing away in March, is being kept in a morgue in the Italian city of Pisa after she forgot to spare money for her funeral costs.According to BBC Turkish's article based on Italian news outlets, retired teacher Fiorella Fanali donated her money to the University of Pisa to be used as scholarship for students and two animal rights associations. However, Fanali did not spare any money for her funeral costs and for the distribution of her inheritance.Although Pisa's Municipality Council Deputy Chairman Riccardo Buscemi intervened to solve the problem, his efforts were unfruitful."I notified the prosecutor's office. I wrote to the university and asked whether they can undertake funeral costs and cover it from the inherited amount. The university said that this subject should be discussed by its management board, and then as they were not the only heir, they cannot pay for all of the costs," Buscemi said. The apparent ingratitude was not the only obstacle against Fanali's funeral, "Meanwhile, one of the associations that received share from Fiorella Fanali's inheritance was closed," Buscemi said, adding that Fanali was probably counting on the gratefulness and flexibility of her heirs while she was distributing her inheritance."Fiorella was a stubborn but good woman. She deserves a peaceful rest in her grave, not to be forgotten in the morgue" one of Fanali's neighbors was quoted.
