The main evening press screening for the Cannes Film Festival was canceled Saturday after authorities evacuated the theater.

Several thousand people were gathered outside the building, as officials told the press to leave the area. However, the Cannes press office told dpa they had no information about the reasons behind the evacuation.

The Cannes Film Festival is on a high security alert following a string of terrorist attacks across Europe.
