U.K. Home Secretary Amber Rudd criticized the U.S. Wednesday for leaking confidential details about the Manchester attack to the media.

A number of details including the identity of the attacker and the death toll were reportedly leaked Monday by security officials in the U.S.

Rudd expressed her disappointment with the situation and described the leak as "irritating."

"The British police have been very clear that they want to control the flow of information in order to protect operational integrity, and the element of surprise, so it is irritating if it gets released from other sources and I have been very clear with our friends that that should not happen again," Rudd said.

The British Home Secretary added that U.S. leaks did not compromise the investigation.

Britain and the U.S. share intelligence under the UKUSA agreement, which also includes Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Together the five nations constitute a group known as the "Five Eyes."
