A car drove into pedestrians outside of an event where Eid al-Fitr celebrations were taking place in northern England's Newcastle on Sunday, injuring at least six people, including three children.

Hundreds of Muslims were at the event in Westgate Sports Centre early in the morning.

The Northumbria Police said an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident, but initial evidence shows that it was not believed terror-related.

A 42-year-old woman who was driving the vehicle was arrested and she is being questioned in police custody.

Four terrorist attacks took place in the U.K. in the last three months, killing a total of 36 people and injuring around 200. The attacks raised tensions in capital London - targeted in three attacks - and elsewhere in the country.

Daesh terrorist group assumed responsibility for the two attacks in London - in which assailants drove into pedestrians on London Bridge and Westminster Bridge - and the attack on concert goers in Manchester.

Monday's attack targeted Muslims leaving a morning prayer in London's Finsbury Park. Makram Ali, a father of six, was killed and 10 others were injured when a vehicle ran down pedestrians near a mosque.

47-year-old Darren Osborne was charged with terrorism related murder and attempted murder.
