‘Contemporary Istanbul’ attracts global visitors

The ninth annual edition of the major art fair "Contemporary Istanbul" opened its doors to visitors on Thursday, and brings together over 100 galleries and 520 artists from 23 countries. The four-day international fair is expected to attract over 70,000 visitors to events and exhibitions at the Lutfi Kirdar Convention and Exhibition Center and various other locations throughout Istanbul. Galleries from different parts of the world will participate in the events including Paris-based Galerie Lelong, New York-based Marlborough Galleries, Madrid-based Galerie Javier Lopez and many others. It is also set to host new and emerging Istanbul-based galleries like Oktem&Aykut Gallery, Mixer and Art Nivo. The fair's new media section will mark its second year as being a stable of the festival and is showcasing the latest works in digital art and design, focusing on a wide range of genres. Another novelty the fair is offering is "CI Editions" where artists will discuss and share their work for the first time with audiences. Turkish painter Mustafa Horasan, ceramic artist Hale Tenger and sculptor Firat Engin will be the inaugural artists at this year's CI Edition.
