Modern art exhibition touches socio-political issues

Gallery İlayda will host Damla Özdemir's solo exhibition "Minor Sabotage" from Feb. 5 to March 1. According to Marcus Graf's interpretations of the artist, Özdemir's work, which blends personal stories with socio-political issues and balance form and content in order to create beautiful and intellectually sophisticated pieces, are some of the finest examples of contemporary art. Although she does not define herself as a feminist, her work parallels feminist criticism. While criticizing the patriarchal status quo, she uses irony and presents her art with an alluring aesthetic, which is one of the biggest strengths of Özdemir's work. Additionally, the power of her work is also based on her use of collage as a proper artistic method for illustrating the complexity of today. She knows how to use the art's pluralistic and eclectic character as a reaction to our world, which is composed of fragments, and also incorporates 3-D designs. Contextually, the artist's collages demonstrate how to survive in a collapsing world and how to create an independent and free identity. Her work also focuses on the socio-cultural pressure on women in patriarchal societies as well as resistance and counter movements. Moreover, Özdemir depicts places that have inspired the context of her exhibition, so both the figures in her work and their surroundings are important. This relationship between protagonist and environment draws attention to the troubled connection between human beings and the world, shaded in surrealism. Art lovers who want to observe witty games formed with imagery as well as 3-D collages are invited to view Özdemir's latest solo exhibition. When: From Feb. 5 to March 1 Where: Gallery İlayda
