Photo exhibition raises awareness of violence against women


The female members of the Gölcük Art of Photography and Cinema Association is holding an exhibition titled "Women Exhibit Their Sufferings" to draw attention to violence against women in Turkey. Association President İsmail İkiz, who spoke at the inauguration of the exhibition at the Vehbi Koç Foundation Ford Otosan Gölcük Cultural and Social Center, said that female members of their association took the exhibition's featured photos, which highlight violence against women within the scope of International Women's Day. Stressing that violence against women is one of the most pressing current problems, İkiz said the photos were taken to draw attention to the problem. He said that the members' work was successful and emphasized, "I thought that women can portray this problem better than men because they are exposed to it. They took very meaningful photos pointing out violence against women. All female members of our association contributed to the project." On the other hand, the art director of the Vehbi Koç Foundation Ford Otosan Gölcük Cultural and Social Center, Fulya Küçüksoy, emphasized that their center is hosting the exhibition to draw attention to the violence against women in society. Stating that the exhibition tells the story of women who are facing serious difficulties in their lives, Küçüksoy said they will stage the play "Kurdele Ya Da Artı Sonsuz" following the exhibition. The art director said they support social responsibility projects and stressed, "We aimed to emphasize the seriousness of violence against women and the value of women in the society.
