The 8th International Arab Film Festival kicked off Thursday in Algeria's Oran city with a reception under the auspices of Algeria President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and the Ministry of Culture. Hosted by Culture Minister Azzedine Mihoubi, the festival welcomes local and foreign movie lovers, artists and statesmen including Adnan Keçeci, Turkey's ambassador in Algeria. Turkey participates to the festival as honorary guest. Three Turkish films will be screened at the festival - Yılmaz Erdoğan's 2013 production "Kelebeğin Rüyası" (The Butterfly's Dream), Melih Saraçoğlu and Hakkı Kurtuluş's "Gözümün Nuru" (Eye Am) released in 2013 and Pelin Özer's 2012 production "Gözetleme Kulesi" (Watchtower). The films will be shown on June 9. Following film screenings, an evening dinner will be held in honor of Turkey. Film critic Mehmet Basutçu joins as jury member from Turkey. Selim Bayraktar, who appeared as "Sümbül Agha" in popular TV series the Magnificent Century, is among the festival guests. Until June 12, sixty films will be shown. In the competition category, there are 12 documentary films, 14 short films and 12 feature films. A total of 38 films from 17 countries will compete in the festival taking place since 2007.When: Until June 12Where: Algeria
