University to discuss collective memory
Boğaziçi University's Department of Sociology will host a conference titled "Collective Memory" on June 20 at Demir Demirgil Hall. The conference, which is taking place thanks to the initiative of students enrolled in the department's collective memory course, will open with a speech by Meltem Ahıska. The event will continue throughout the day and will feature panel sessions such as "Memories that Cannot be Captured by Art" moderated by Banu Karaca, "What Monuments Commemorate" moderated by Onur Günay and "Witnesses and Testimonies" moderated by Melissa Bilal. The conference will try to answer questions such as "What do we remember, which traces, places, feelings and senses are we after?" "How do the clashes between a fragmented past and the memories of today occur?" and "What do destroyed memories tell us?"
