Istanbul Funk Unit was formed by Cenk Soyak in 2011 and inspired by the world-famous group Nils Landgren Funk Unit. Aside from Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter and Bill Withers, performs funk interpretations of traditional Turkish music. The Istanbul Funk Unit features prominent musician Yahya Dai and Olgun Açar as well as architect Kerem Turhan, associate professor Taylan Cemgil from Boğaziçi University and education consultant Ebru Selvikavak from Bilgi University.
