Sculpture exhibition depicts human's ‘suffocation'

A senior student at Kocaeli University's Department of Sculpture, Sevilay Ökçe, will display her latest exhibition "Boğuntu" (Suffocation) at Venüs Art Gallery July 23-30. The exhibition features more than 20 works and can be seen on weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. "Humans sometimes exert great effort to find a place for themselves in unusual spaces. They come and go between one thought and another. Each thought gives rise to another one. Humans also question their own existence and feel suffocated by the cyclical nature of their thought process. The wooden sculptures at my exhibition acquire a shape within this cycle and then find a place for themselves outside of it. I want to present a critical perspective to the audience and remind them about the situations that we deal with due to our traditions and life," she said about her exhibition. The exhibition is a quest into contradictions experienced by all. The opening ceremony will take place on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.When: Until July 30Where: Venüs Art Gallery
