Kalben's relationship with music started when she was a child. She began writing her first songs after she was gifted her first piano when she turned 8. After a while, she began taking piano lessons and also learned how to play guitar. The Ankara-based, indie-folk musician Kalben, who entered the spotlight after she uploaded her own composition to SoundCloud, gained many followers after she performed at one of the "Sofar Sounds Istanbul" concert series, and the video of her live performance ended up on YouTube. Kalben, who began playing guitar at the age of 14, will play for Istanbulites on Aug. 28.
