Seen as one of the important films of the 21st century and the winner of more than 40 awards, including an Academy Award, "Citizenfour" will be screened at UNIQ Open-air Stage on Sept. 20. Rather than a documentary, "Citizenfour" is a thriller based on a real-life story. Documentarian and journalist Laura Poitras and journalist Glenn Greenwald meet Edward Snowden using Citizenfour as his nickname in Hong Kong. A former U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) contractor, Snowden provided data and documents proving the NSA violates privacy rights to the journalists. Poitras and Greenwald bring to the forefront the self-sacrificing act of Snowden, whose life has changed with this historical decision. Directed by Poitras, the documentary sheds light on the, global, covert surveillance programs run by the NSA in collaboration with other intelligence agencies through Snowden.
