Organized in collaboration with the University of Liverpool, the Research Centre for Anatolian Civilizations (RCAC) is currently hosting the "John Garstang's Footsteps Across Anatolia" exhibition, which is displaying photos of John Garstang, one of the first advocates of using photography as a means of recording archaeological excavations. Garstang's photos from his survey of Anatolia and Northern Syria in 1907 established the full extent of the ancient Hittite Empire for the first time. The University of Liverpool systematically digitized and catalogued thousands of Garstang's glass plate photographic negatives to create a new archive. Moreover, they are a research resource for archaeologists and anthropologists recording the lost monuments and lifestyles of Turkey and Northern Syria in the late Ottoman period. The exhibition features photos, archival materials from the Gartsang Museum of Archaeology and the British Institute in Ankara.When: Until Dec. 10Where: RCAC
