Educator and music virtuoso Okay Temiz, who is one of the prominent percussionists in Turkey, traveled around the world and visited Africa, South America and India in order to acquaint himself with various cultures and musical styles. During his travels, he felt intense passion for the new instruments to which he was introduced and became one of the rare musicians who produce his own instruments. Temiz reinterpreted avant-garde jazz music with his instrument collection featuring a quicca, berimbau, finger piano and talking-drums. Temiz has given hundreds of live performances, collaborated with American trumpet master Don Cherry and founded a band called Xaba with African bassist Johnny Dyani and trumpeter Mongezi Feza. Now, he is blending Turkish jazz and musical styles from Africa, India and Eastern Europe with his new project with Swedish jazz musician Lennart Aberg titled "Kuzeyden Güneye" (North to South).
