Bringing artists from all over the Balkans together to create a cultural mosaic, the art exhibition titled "Balkan Breeze" was opened at Summart Art Center on June 8. A total of 30 artworks by 12 artists from Turkey, Romania, Albania and Greece are on display at the exhibition.Speaking to an Anadolu Agency (AA) correspondent, project officer Özlem Aleçakır said the warm hearts of the Balkan artists are reflected in their artworks. Highlighting that art is the best bond to bring people together, Aleçakır said: "The main objective of 'Balkan Breeze' is to create a cultural and artistic mosaic with Balkan artists. We wanted art lovers to observe the artistic approach of Balkan artists. They might be geographically divided, but Balkan countries are culturally close. Their understanding of art is very similar."Greek artist Angelika Vaxevanidou, whose work is also featured at the exhibition, said "Balkan Breeze" brought very important and talented artists together. "The exhibition intrigued me as it lured artists from different countries to be a part of the same thing. You can see at the exhibition that there is a common language and past. My work is about mankind and I am mostly interested in identity. People in my paintings can be whoever you want them to be," the artist added. Yiğit Yazıcı, one of the two Turkish artists featured at the exhibition, said Turkish culture bears many traces of Balkan culture. "We are facing the West for the last hundred years, which means that we have a lot of Western culture elements in our own culture. It is natural to see Western traces in Turkish art. I cannot totally identify myself as a westerner or an easterner and this duality is visible in my work."The exhibition will continue until June 30.
