Experienced hunter, Hugh Glass, who traps animals for their fur, is seriously injured by a grizzly bear while hunting on land where some Native Americans and French troops work together and experience tough conditions. Glass's supposed friends leave him to die as the progress of the team is made difficult by his injury.
