Pera film to screen Tarkovsky's 'Solaris'

Pera Film, a Pera Museum initiative, commemorates Andrei Tarkovsky on his 30th anniversary of death with a series of screening of his deep, poetic and very personal films. On Dec. 15 and Dec. 18, Pera Film will screen Tarkovsky's cult 1972 film, "Solaris." Regarded as Tarkovsky's masterpiece, this is undoubtedly one of the most profound and influential films ever produced in its genre, pushing the boundaries of sci-fi in every step of the way. The director does not bother with creating futuristic scenery - the film's lone city scene was simply shot in contemporary Tokyo - but he concentrates mostly on the barren "soulscapes" of his characters. Although Hollywood tried to shoot a remake of the film, they failed to convey the emotional dilemmas created by Tarkovsky's mirror-hall and Eduard Artemiev's astonishing score. When: Dec.16 and Dec. 18Where: Pera Museum, Istanbul
