A photo exhibition titled "Reflections from the Glacial Continent, Antarctica" has been opened at Antalya Metropolitan Municipality's Marine Biology Museum. The exhibition, consisting of 150 photographs, has been on display in Marine Biology Museum in Turkey for the first time. "Reflections from the Glacial Continent, Antarctica," consisting of photos of the expeditions to Antarctica and scientific studies by the president of Turkish Marine Research Foundation, Professor Bayram Öztürk and Assistant Professor Arda Tonay from 2014 to 2016, has opened its doors to visitors in Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Marine Biology Museum, located in Kaleiçi Yacht Marine. The head of the department of Tourism and Museums of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, İlyas Çopur, emphasized the fact that the photographs in the exhibition were taken with huge difficulties. "I would like to thank Öztürk and Tonay for their priceless work. We are happy that they brought these special photographs together in Antalya. Our citizens can witness what scientists in Turkey did until now and can do further thanks to this exhibition. I do believe that people in Antalya will be greatly interested in this exhibition in the museum," he said.Professor Öztürk also stated that Marine Biology Museum is a very exclusive museum. "This exhibition is the first Antarctica exhibition in Turkey. Our goal is to expand our museum to other cities and give information on our experiences in Antarctica because both climate change and the ozonosphere has been discovered for the first time in Antarctica. This exhibition is compiled of photographs that we took in three years. I would like to offer my gratitude to Menderes Türel, the mayor of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, and other officials for their support in the opening of the exhibition," said Öztürk.The theme of the exhibition, which includes 150 photographs, is on the types of glaciers, living beings and scientific and social life in Antarctica. The extraordinary exhibition reflects the scientific and cultural values of Antarctica, with impressive snapshots, where many countries have their research studies with the aim of both national interests and on behalf of the future of humanity. Furthermore, it also puts forward the sensitive issues regarding topics most frequently discussed by the public, such as the glaciers melting, change in the features of currents, sustainability of marine species sources, protection areas of the sea and above all things, the priority of protecting the white continent. Visitors will witness the past and present situation of the glacier continent, biological diversity and richness."Reflections from the Glacial Continent, Antarctica" will be open to visitors for two months.
