Choreographed by one of the world's leading contemporary choreographers, George Balanchine, "Jewels" will be performed with the Royal Opera House Display at Zorlu PSM (Performing Arts Center), on May 26. The three-act ballet, "Jewels" premiered at New York State Theater on April 13, 1967. Works by prominent composers like Gabriel Faure, Igor Stravinsky and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky were used in the three acts, named "Emeralds," "Rubies" and "Diamonds."

Combining the magic atmosphere created by Faure's "Pelleas et Melisande" (1898) and Shylock (1889), Stravinsky's "Capriccio for Piano and Orchestra" (1929) and Tchaikovsky's "Symphony No. 3 in D Major" (1875) with the magnificence of jewelry-like dresses designed by Barbara Karinska, has been popular with ballet lovers for over 50 years. Entering the list of the Royal Opera House repertoire one more time in 2007, with the modern stage design by Jean-Marc Puissant, "Jewels" brought two Laurence Olivier Awards to The Royal Ballet group in the categories of the best new dance production and outstanding achievement.
