Blitz exhibit transcends geographical boundaries of migration

The abode of Cihad Caner at Blitz will be on display in a free exhibition that will be open July 28-29.

As a resident artist at Blitz, Cihad Caner focuses on the role of water in modern mass migration. The current migrant crisis is one of the largest refugee movements since World War II and, at the same time, drought has been marked as one of the biggest problems in the world. Therefore, migration and refugee movements are mostly thought to be resulting because of drought, a follow up of climate change. Syrians' passage across the Mediterranean Sea as a means for their escape from war-torn Syria from 2007 to 2010 is also thought to be an example of this phenomenon. The Blitz exhibition will not only analyze the ecological impact of water but also the politicization of water.

Living and working in Rotterdam and Istanbul, Cihad Caner, born in 1990, is an artist who works in photography, videography, CGI and sculptures. His works are centered on how the other is portrayed, how objects in daily life are used and current social and political events such as war, public resistance, and immigration. Recently he his works were exhibited at V2_Unstable Media, the Hong Kong Arts Center, the AMNUA Museum, the National Gallery of Iceland, Mother Gallery London, the Bohai Galerie and the EYE Film Museum. Caner graduated with an M.A. in Media Design and Communication from the Piet Zwart Institute, Rotterdam in 2016.
