Theater, film programs heat up this summer


Enka Culture and Art will host an entertaining performance of Semaver and Kumpanya on the night of July 31, telling the joyous story of a touring theater company that will greet spectators at the ENKA Eşref Denizhan Open-Air Theater. The play that they performed on their fifth anniversary which is defined as Kasapoğlu's dream play, will once again meet spectators in its 15th year. Ahmet Kaynak, Burcu Doğan, Mustafa Kırantepe, Serkan Keskin, Selen Şenay, Sezin Bozacı, Sibel Altan, Taner Ölmez and Yavuz Pekman will be on the stage for the play which focuses the story of a group of people who uphold the concept of "theater despite everything" while struggling to make their dreams come true.

The live performances in the open-air theater will end with a word from the theater company followed by film screenings.

The open-air film screenings will present a satisfying program to spectators during the week of July 31. The film "Lion," which tells the story of India's Saroo played by Dave Patel, who returned to India to search for his family after living 25 years in Calcutta, far away from home, and is sure to be a moving emotional experience.

"Hidden Figures," which will be screened on the night of Saturday, Aug. 2, will focus on the life stories of Katherine G. Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson, who are successful African-American NASA scientists. The last screening of the week will be "Snowden," which tells the story of Edward Snowden, turning it from treason to heroism. The film will be screened on Thursday, Aug. 3.

All of the activities within the program will start at 9:15 p.m.

Theater Camping to raise awareness of water rights

The Water Rights' Company is organizing the second Water for Life Summer Camp Aug. 25 to Aug. 27 at the Büyükada Social Facilities of the Kartal Municipality. The city council of the Princes' Islands will also be held at the summer camp this year. Speakers from several institutions and local movements will be at the camp which will host film screenings, workshops, and meetings.The three-day camp will focus on discussions about water rights and will host 60 participants, free of charge. Accommodations will be made for guests in the tea garden of the Kartal Municipality's Büyükada Social Facilities where participants can bring their own tents to camp out. The deadline for applications is Sunday, Aug. 6.
