Istanbul's top-10 most amazing swimming pools

In the heat of the sweltering summer and freshly equipped with a new influx of heat wave warnings, it is time to try out some of Istanbul's luxurious swimming pools, as they just happen to be some of the most luxurious in the world

With temperatures set to increase by at least five degrees this week alone, if you happen to be in the city, you may be dreaming of swimming pools and sandy beaches. However, it is possible to make that worthwhile dream come true and in the best of fashion with a visit to one of Istanbul's many luxurious hotel swimming pools. Although pricey, many welcome day trippers, and the experience comes with the comfort and style expected to do this magnificent city justice and to give you a bit of respite in the sweltering summer. The following is a list of Istanbul's top 10 luxurious swimming pools1. The bohemian high life: Soho House Istanbul: I, like many others, was first introduced to the exclusive Soho House Co. concept that started 20 years ago in London as a posh home away from home for those engaged in creative fields after watching an episode of "Sex and the City." And I can't say the depiction of Samantha's clawing her way into this elusive members-only club is not that far off. Strictly members-only, which consists of a mix of people in the entertainment and arts fields as well as the foreign diplomat crowd, this Soho House is the newest and largest yet and is certainly the hottest ticket in town. Situated in the heart of Beyoğlu and housed in a 19th century palazzo that once served as the U.S. Consulate, Soho House Istanbul also boasts its trademark rooftop pool, this time two of them, and with views of the Golden Horn. There is also their signature Cowshed spa as well as a number of restaurants and a screening room on the complex. The key to getting in is becoming a member, knowing one or staying in one of their amazing 87 rooms.2. Man-made island in the Bosporus: Suada Club: For a unique experience complete with swimming and sunning on an island smack dab in the center of the Bosporus Strait that has a 360-degree view of its two bridges and the European and Asian sides, head to Suada. It is a man-made island that includes an Olympic-sized pool filled with filtered sea water, chic cabanas and some of the best dining the city has to offer, including 360's summer venue and Mezzaluna. A day pass to the pool and facilities costs TL 90 ($32.46) for weekdays and 110 TL on the weekend in what is surprisingly one of the best deals in town for swimming and sunning. Entry for children ages 0-6 is free and there is a 50 percent discount applied to kids ages 6-11. Suada Club's boats pick up and drop off patrons free of charge to the Kuruçeşme pier, so even getting there and back is a bit of an added adventure.3. For the ultimate splurge: Çırağan Palace Kempinski: A former Ottoman palace and now one of the most luxurious hotels in the world, the Çırağan Palace Kempinski's Sultan's Suite costs an upwards of $15,000 per night, which puts it on the shortlist as one of the most expensive hotel rooms in the world. In comparison, the weekday entry fee of 100 euros, and 160 euros for the weekend to the pool and spa facilities seems like a deal. With a 33-meter-long infinity pool leading straight into the Bosporus, Çırağan Palace is the ultimate luxurious swimming experience. There is also an indoor pool as well as a pool for children, and they offer significant discounts for children under 11. The pool entry fee also allows access to the spa facilities, which includes the steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi. If you haven't had the palatial experience yet, it's high time you gave the high life a try and pamper yourself in the city during the scorching heat wave.4. Sun and fun with the glitterati: Les Ottomans: The lesser-known gem of the glitterati is Les Ottomans, considered to be Istanbul's most luxurious boutique hotel set along the banks of the Bosporus in a mansion in Kuruçeşme. Les Ottomans has a classic, upscale elegance, with Ottoman decor based on Feng Shui principles and only 10 individually designed rooms. There is also a Caudalie Vinotherapie spa onsite with a long list of spa treatments. The daily entrance fee to the outdoor pool, where the city's high life spends the summer, is a flat TL 150 every day of the week and for patrons of all ages.5. It's all about the spa: Swissotel The Bosphorus: Another upscale option for swimming and sunning is the Swissotel in Maçka. This expansive hotel with nearly 500 rooms has an impressive garden circular pool equipped with its own towering fountain all among an overhead view of the Bosporus. Daily entry to the pool costs a pretty penny at TL 200 for weekdays and TL 250 for weekends for patrons of all ages. The one consolation is customers get free use of the hotel's award-winning Pürovel spa facilities, equipped with an indoor pool, bio sauna and Jacuzzi. The Classics6. The Marmara Taksim Hotel: The rooftop pool at The Marmara Taksim Hotel has a commandeering view of the city's transportation hub, is 25 meters long, 6 meters wide and also features a children's pool area. The daily rate to enjoy the pool and spa facilities is TL 150 on weekdays and TL 200 on weekends with children up to age 6 entering for free and a 50 percent discount applied to those under 12. This hotel has long been a regular stop for expats in the Beyoğlu area to enjoy the pool and gym facilities, and they also offer multiple-entry coupons.7. The Istanbul Hilton: Istanbul's first five-star hotel remains a classic for its rooftop views, but it's the pool that is set in the green grounds with a view of the Bosporus that will literally transport you away from its central destination of Harbiye to somewhere serene and celebratory. Entrance to the pool and spa facilities is TL 120 on weekdays and TL 200 on weekends, with children ages 0-3 given free entrance and those ages 3-6 given a 25 percent discount. There is a separate children's playground with all sorts of activities and a poolside barbeque on the weekends.8. Conrad Istanbul: Conrad Istanbul's pool facilities are in a surprisingly lush garden in Beşiktaş. Although the spa facilities are currently under renovation, the 25-meter-long, open-air pool offers a welcome respite in the heart of the city and in the scorching summer. Entrance on weekdays is TL 90 for one and TL 135 for two, and on weekends, the price go up to TL 135 TL and TL 230, respectively. Children up to age 6 enter for free and a 50 percent discount is applied to those ages 6-12.On the Asian side9. DoubleTree by Hilton Istanbul: Located in Moda, the impressive DoubleTree by Hilton has a stunning sky-high rooftop corner pool seemingly spilling into the Marmara side of the Bosporus with views of the Princes' Islands. For a sweet day by the pool, the daily entry fee is TL 100 on weekdays and TL 130 on weekends, Children ages 0-6 enter free and those ages 6-12 benefit from a 50 percent discount.10. Wyndham Istanbul Kalamış Marina: This newer gem on the Asian side also has an impressive terrace pool as well as a garden pool, and the setting as well as the views are somewhat more serene with an open horizon of the Asian end of the Bosporus. The daily entry fee is TL 100 for weekdays and TL 150 for weekends. Children up to age 6 enter free, but are only allowed in the hotel's garden pool, while children ages 7-12 are given a 50 percent discount.Keep in mind prices and availability are subject to change. The steadfast rule is to call first and confirm your poolside spot if possible. Turkey's Groupon and websites such as Sehirfirsati offer excellent discounts to many of the city's high-end hotel pools. Expect weekends to be busy and certainly more expensive as the aforementioned rates confirm. However, experiencing some nice pampering by way of this city's fanciest hotels and their swanky pools is one of the best ways to beat the warm weather season, experience Istanbul at its finest and often its highest vantage points.
