Elegance and simplicity dominate winter fashion

Keeping up appearances is not easy, especially in winter, but it is still possible to bundle yourself up with the season's popular outfits such as hand-knitted cashmere in neutral, classic colors or thick cardigans

This season's winter trends have already been cropping up on top fashion runways around the world. In 2016, contemporary chic cashmere with a distinctly feminine look is a must-have for a woman's wardrobe. To learn about the hot winter trends for 2016, Daily Sabah sat down to an interview with designer Esra Bezek Dikencik, founder of the luxury knitwear brand CashmereInLove, which she has run since 2007. Daily Sabah: What kinds of colors, fabrics and designs will we see on the fashion scene this winter?Esra Bezek Dikencik: Bulky knitwear and silky fabrics create a "transitional" scene with cuts and slits [in this season]. Geometric folds, hand-knitted patterns and embroidery give an authentic depth to our pieces. The 2016 fashion scene combines off-white, baby pink and neutral colors like caramel with classic colors like navy blue with red. In addition to the traditional pure cashmere, thick cashmere and wool coats, thinly knit cashmere, silk and "featherweight" cashmere are the musts this season.DS: We can clearly see your love for cashmere. What are some trends in cashmere this season? What do you think are some critical pieces a woman must have in her wardrobe?EBD: This year, white, off-white, beige and light colors such as baby pink stand out. Moreover, the ribbed knitting pattern gives texture to the attire, adding volume and dimension. Other eye catching details include extra-long sleeves, big sizes and deep slits. I think one elegant, detailed look is a thick black cardigan worn with a thin cashmere sweater with a round neckline. Another must-have for those travelling this winter is a medium-thick cashmere sweater in a classic color, allowing you to pair it with multiple outfits from your wardrobe. Another must-have in your suitcase should be a silk cashmere t-shirt and a thin sweater for layering.DS: Designers are constantly in creative mode. As you are creating your designs, who and what give you inspiration? How does this process come about?Actually I get inspiration from every aspect in life. But specifically, I would say that the trips I take and the time I have spent learning to surf - which I have been doing for the past two years - on waves, in the ocean and nature, have given me inspiration. I can also say that art -- especially American Modernism and the geometry of art decor and cubism -- are inspirational for me. Designing products for a collection does not happen overnight, it is something that is constantly on your mind and is the result of a process that develops within you. By this process, it is common to get inspiration from lots of things. DS: Fashion is constantly changing but your designs seem to be timeless. How do you manage to capture that timelessness? We offer simplicity and elegance together. We always renew and improve elegance, difference and quality. Keeping this at a certain level is important for us. In the midst of a changing world and consumerism, we grasp our timelessness by renewing and observing our approaches to fashion.DS: What advice would you give to a woman who is trying to discover herself and her style? You don't have to wear or live in whatever the fashion world puts in front of you. I would always say, just be yourself. I think being clean and groomed is the first rule to being elegant.DS: You most often prefer a simple and elegant look. What is the reason behind this? Do you think elegance and simplicity are two concepts that go hand-in-hand with each other? It is hard to put into words the reason behind being elegant and simple, this is about a person's own style and stance. I love simple and clear-cut designs; the little touches that bring out the simplicity and elegance of a piece can give the product or the whole space individuality.CashmereInLove opened its flagship store in July 2015 in Istanbul's ritzy Bebek neighborhood. The store was designed by Emir Uras of URAStudio with a minimalist concept that coincides with the general vision of the brand itself. With an entire wall covered in abstract geometric shapes and a large cascading brass sculpture, the flagship store is a contemporary and elegant showcase of Bezek's expression of style of simplicity. While chatting with Bezek, she said "The small touches that bring out the simplicity and elegance in clothing can give the product or the whole space its individuality." The minute you enter the store, you are immediately dazzled by various textures, asymmetrical shapes and soft neutral colors of the garments that softly dangle on brass hangers.
