Turkey Design Week to boost innovation, creativity


This week will see prestigious names in industrial design, fashion and visual communication design around the world flocking to Turkey Design Week, the first of its kind. The event will bring together designers, manufacturers, traders and exporters at Istanbul's Lütfi Kırdar Convention and Exhibition Center.

Scheduled this week from Oct. 19-23, the debut Turkey Design Week has been organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM).

The event will include panels, conferences and workshops will be held with a focus on industrial design, fashion design and visual communication design with the participation of world-renowned designers, universities, design schools, industrialists and academics.

The organization will be enriched with the exhibitions and fashion shows of the finalists of design competitions held within the year along with award-winning Turkish designers who won awards in prestigious design competitions around the world and national/international project exhibitions of design centers and design offices. The activity that will bring together all stakeholders working in the design field under one roof will constitute an integrated design ecosystem by covering the Design Turkey Award Ceremony and Exhibition.

Among the guests are Michael Young, a prolific name in experimental design, fashion designers Atıl Kutoğlu, Hussein Chalayan and Ayşe Ege and Ece Ege as well as Finnish shoe designer Minna Parikka whose shoes have been worn by celebrities including Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Cara Delevingne and Kylie Jenner. Chalayan is expected to deliver a talk on Oct. 20.

A selection from Beirut Design Week, a big design festival of the Middle East and North Africa, will also be featured at the venue. Another show will be Sara Garanty's "Color Emotions," which examines human perception of reality. Exhibitions including "İzler" (Traces), featuring traditional Turkish handicrafts in cooperation with Istanbul Fashion Academy and Turkish fashion house Dice Kayek will also be held at the event.
