Turkish designer invited to New York Fashion Week

Neslişah Yılmaz, a Turkish women's fashion designer, has been invited to New York Fashion Week this September. This is the first time that a Turkish designer will be in the main show schedule for one of the biggest fashion events of the year.

Speaking to the press after receiving the invitation, Yılmaz said it was an incredible feeling to be invited such a huge fashion event where the industry's giants showcase their latest collections.

Yılmaz is currently working on her collection, which will hit the runway in New York on Sept. 6. Yılmaz's brand Barrus is no stranger to world fashion weeks. For the last two years, she has been a frequent sight at London Fashion Week, one of the four fashion "grand slams" of the year. Based in Istanbul's Nişantaşı quarter, Barrus is greatly inspired by Anatolian heritage. For the debut collections in London, the designer applied the traditional Turkish art of "ebru" (marbling) and similar handcrafts.
