Nasdaq: Istanbul has potential to be finance center

NEWYORK — Vice Chairman of NASDAQ OMX Group Meyer Sandy Frucher spoke to the press after a ceremony marking the start of a strategic partnership signed between Nasdaq OMX and Borsa Istanbul. While acknowledging the Turkish economy fluctuated heavily, Frucher stressed that it maintained strong fundamentals. "The high yielding in Turkish markets is quite impressive. We believe that markets in Turkey will keep growing and the regional economy will diversify and expand," Frucher remarked. Frucher further noted Turkey has become a prominent path for financial markets and concluded, "Turkey is at a point where various cultures and religions meet. It is very significant that people from different cultural and religious backgrounds live together. That is why the partnership will help all people be understood better, to improve and to have more opportunities. All in all, it has been a perfect synergy and partnership."
