Gov’t to subsidize 50 pct of agricultural investment


In order improve agricultural marketing infrastructure, the Turkish government has announced it will be providing a 50 percent subsidy to certain investments which increase food safety, establish alternative income resources in rural areas, increase the efficiency of currently ongoing rural development works and create capacity in rural societies. The subsidy was announced in the Official Gazette under the title, "Notice on Supporting Agriculture-Based Economic Investments as Part of the Program for Supporting Urban Development Investments," initiated by the Food, Agriculture and Livestock Ministry. With the notice, more importance will be assigned to the protection of natural resources and the environment and will aid in regulating the rules and procedures for increasing the rural income level as well as supporting SMEs engaged in agriculture. Under the auspices of the program, the construction of facilities for processing, storing and packaging agricultural products, increasing the capacities of such currently available facilities, constructing greenhouses using alternative energy resources or constructing facilities that produce solar and wind power, building modern fixed investments for agricultural production, processing, packaging and storing animal-origin fertilizers will all be considered within the guidelines of the program and allowable for subsidies in the respective projects.Fifty percent of the costs of such projects will be covered by the government through grant applications. The remaining 50 percent will come from applicants' own resources.
