Turkey 16th in G20 women leaders index


Global accounting and consulting firm EY released last week its "Worldwide Index of Women as Public Sector Leaders Report" with the subtitle "Opening Doors for Women Working in Government." In the G20 Index of Women as Public Sector Leaders, Turkey was listed as 16th, surpassing economically strong countries such as China, Japan and South Korea. Besides the public sector including Parliament, the number of women working in the private sector was also measured in the report under Turkey came 10th in the list in regards to the number of women working in the private sector. Canada ranked number one in the Index with Australia, South Africa, England, Brazil and the U.S. following. The report reveals that women make up 51 percent of the population but even in Canada, the country that topped the list, they account for only 45 percent of its public sector leaders, according to the G20 Index of Women as Public Sector Leaders. Women account for 2.5 percent of public sector leaders in Japan, the world's third-largest economy while only 7.7 percent of public sector leaders are female in India, the world's largest democracy, the report says. Turkey was listed 12th with 13.6 percent of female public sector leaders.
