Türk Eximbank holds talks with Japanese investors

Export Credit Bank of Turkey's (Türk Eximbank) senior management met with Japanese institutional investors at the Non-Deal Roadshow in Japan. The bank said in a statement that talks were held with Japanese institutional investors, mainly the Japanese Development Bank, Japanese regional banks and insurance companies, to increase support for exports and to raise funds from Japanese markets in 2018.

The delegation, headed by the Türk Eximbank General Manager Adnan Yıldırım, attended the talks, which were coordinated by Mizuho Bank, Ltd.

A well-attended reception was held on Wednesday with the participation of around 100 representatives from 30 Japanese institutional investor and banks within the scope of the Non-Deal Roadshow talks that have been in progress in Japan since Dec. 4.

Within the scope of 15 meetings with leading institutions, details about macroeconomic developments and Türk Eximbank's role in the economy and comprehensive financial structure were provided.

Türk Eximbank was the first Turkish bank to meet with Japanese investors for a long time. Reportedly, the bank has discussed new cooperation opportunities to take advantage of Japan's negative interest rate policy, as well as fund-raising opportunities.

The visit was also said to be important in terms of meeting some of the funding needs of projects that are to be carried out in Turkey, which are worth $1 billion. There are also projects planned for African countries and Central Asian Republics over the next three years from alternative fund markets. On the other hand, as a part of its strategy, Türk Eximbank gained resident member status in the Asian Exim Banks Forum (AEBF), a regional group of export-import institutions, last month. It signed a business cooperation agreement with the Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI), Japan's export credit agency, in August.

During the visit, Türk Eximbank General Manager Yıldırım and Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) President Akira Kondoh agreed to sign a business cooperation agreement in February 2018.
