During the previous week I had the opportunity to visit one of the precious restaurants on the Bosphorus, Del Mare, and the 10-year-old location has been quite renewed. Located in Çengelköy, in an old building that used to accommodate elephants during Ottoman times, Del Mare hosts guests with the delicious taste of food today. Reflecting contemporary architecture, the restaurant promises relish and health. All of Del Mare's products are ecologically grown on 18 thousand square meters of the Del Mare farm in Balıkesir-Ayvalık, so everything is indeed homemade. The design of the building is elegant and is as simple as a fish restaurant could be. I congratulate architect Ali Türker for this simple work of design as the decoration does not wear you out and it does not get ahead of the food, especially the terrace, which is an appetizer itself with its gorgeous view. The presentation as well as the decoration in the entrance of the restaurant is adorned with objects that will make one feel is if they are at a fish restaurant.As for food, the mezzes stand out the most. The braised greens, which are prepared with sea beans, is indeed a wonder of taste engineering. Served in copper dishes, which can be heated up to 400 degrees, this delicious food accompanies long conversations on the table while still cooking. The sauce of the leaf calamari, which is prepared from squid ink and soy, is indeed distinctive. The crispy ravioli with shrimp is another different taste of the sea in this Turkish cuisine. As for the main course, shish lahos is as promising as the view of Del Mare. At the end of the meal, one must definitely try jugged and baked halvah with apples and sesame paste. Chef Mehmet Yorulmaz deserves applause for the flavors he invents and his distinctive presentation.Using the private boat of the restaurant, which departs from Kuruçeşme, you can reach Del Mare without getting stuck in Istanbul traffic. While enjoying the view of the Bosphorus and accompanied by a DJ performance, you can also benefit from the restaurants bar. Del Mare stands like a beautiful girl on the Bosphorus, enabling you to taste the best fish experience possible from the hands of professionals.
