Football: Beşiktaş keep top position with last minute penalty


Turkish Super Leage leaders Beşiktaş have kept their position despite the heavy challenge from Bursaspor. Host Beşiktaş defeated Bursaspor 3-2 on Sunday at the Atatürk Olimpiyat Stadium.After rivals Fenerbahçe's 5-0 win against Gaziantepspor on Saturday, Beşiktaş had lost their leadership position and had to win. However, when Bursaspor's Bakambu scored in 12nd minute, Beşiktaş got panicked. But Black Eagles managed to find the net in 23rd minute with Senegalese star Demba Ba. Beşiktaş found their second goal in 87th minute with Gökhan Töre's magnificient goal. But their joy did not take long time. In 90th minute Bursaspor scored their second goal. Everyone thought the match would end with draw but Kerim Frei was fouled by Şener in extra time and referee awarded a penalty in favor of Beşiktaş and showed Şener a red card. Demba Ba did not miss the opportunity and scored his 13rd goal. Beşiktaş currently sit at the top of the league with 47 points in 20 games.

The current runners-up is Fenerbahçe, whereas Galatasaray, ranks third place. Galatasaray will meet Balıkesirspor at the Türk Telekom Arena in Istanbul on Monday. The match will start at 8:00 p.m. local time (1800 GMT).
