Shanghai Shenhua snap up Demba Ba

Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua have revealed that they will sign former Beşiktaş striker Demba Ba. The Chinese side officially announced Saturday an agreement with the Turkish Spor Toto Super League team about the Senegalese hitman's transfer. According to a Shanghai Shenhua statement, Ba, 30, will be in China on Sunday for a medical check-up and contract signing. Neither the transfer fee nor the player's annual salary has been disclosed.Ba's career has seen him play for English Premier League sides West Ham, Newcastle United and Chelsea, among others. The Senegalese international scored 27 goals in 44 matches for Beşiktaş. Didier Drogba, another former Chelsea striker, played 11 games for Shanghai Shenhua in 2012 - scoring eight goals in the process. The deal is believed to be worth around 13 million euros to Beşiktaş, a fee which they understandably felt they could not turn down for the 30-year-old who they bought last summer for just over 6.5 million euros. The 30-year-old Senegalese international had been heavily linked with a move to West Brom over the last week but has now completed a shock transfer to China.Ba has played a total of 17 games and scored four goals for Senegal, the country of his parents, including on his debut against Tanzania in June 2007. He represented the nation at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, playing all three matches as they were eliminated from Group A with three defeats.
