The Black Eagles continue to fall victim to snow. Their main rivals Fenerbahçe have won their last two matches, dethroning Beşiktaş to move five points clear

Beşiktaş have been unable to take to the field in the first two weeks of the second half of the season as snowfall continues to blight their season. Two consecutive matches have been postponed because of the heavy snowfall. In the first match of the second half, they faced Mersin İdmanyurdu at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul. The match lasted just five minutes as the snow rendered the pitch unplayable, forcing the postponement of the match. On Sunday they suffered the same fate when they took to the field in an away match against Trabzonspor. The match was abandoned, but the Turkish Football Federation has yet to decide if the match will be played at a later date. Meanwhile Beşiktaş may have to play six league matches in February due to the postponed matches. Beşiktaş want to play the postponed matches on Feb. 3 and Feb. 18. They are already scheduled to play against Gaziantepspor, Medipol Başakşehir, Gençlerbirliği and Fenerbahçe. But the postponed matches against Mersin İdmanyurdu and Trabzonspor may be extra burden for Beşiktaş. As a result, despite Beşiktaş finishing the first half of the season as leaders, Fenerbahçe have moved into the top position with 46 points after they beat Çaykur Rizespor 2-1 in Istanbul. Beşiktaş are ranked second with 41 points. Bizarrely, every goal in the match between Fenerbahçe and Çaykur Rizespor was scored from the penalty spot. Fenerbahçe, who struggled all game to get into scoring positions, found their goals thanks from two penalties by Fernandao in the 29th and 39th minutes. Çaykur Rizespor responded with a penalty kick by Ludovic Silvestre in the 46th minute. Fenerbahçe moved 13 points clear of powerhouses Galatasaray, who were stunned 3-2 by Osmanlıspor on Saturday in Ankara. The Fenerbahçe players are enjoying the psychological advantage of being ahead of Beşiktaş as a result of the postponed matches. Fenerbahçe believe the point difference will put pressure on their rivals. Fenerbahçe defender Hasan Ali Kaldırım said, "We could have felt badly if we were Beşiktaş. It is hard to follow the leaders. We are five points ahead. As long as we win we have the trump card. It is an advantage to be ahead."Fenerbahçe coach Vitor Pereira talked cautiously saying, "We must focus on our own matches and mind our own business. We must continue our winning habit. If we win all the matches, we are the champion. You can't win the title in the middle of the season."Pereira is doing better at this stage of the season in his first year than any Fenerbahçe coach in the last 10 seasons. Fenerbahçe under Pereira's supervision have 14 wins, four draws and one loss. They have collected 46 points and have scored in 34 consecutive matches in the league. If Fenerbahçe score one more goal this weekend they will equal their record from 1989. As the adverse weather conditions wreak havoc with the sporting schedule, Gaziantepspor fans did their best to keep their game against Bursaspor at the Kamil Ocak Stadium from being postponed. The fans, club workers and several volunteers pitched in to try and rid the pitch of snow. And their efforts were rewarded as the game was confirmed after a pitch inspection. However the host team Gaziantepspor lost the match 2-3 against Bursaspor.
