Fener fans urge President Yıldırım to resign


The derby between Turkey's top football clubs Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe ended in a 0-0 draw at the Türk Telecom Arena in Istanbul Sunday, giving Beşiktaş the chance to extend their lead at the top of the table to five points.Fenerbahçe have dropped seven points in the last three weeks, causing fans to revolt against the 17-year presidency of Aziz Yıldırım.Accusing Yıldırım of making a mistake by firing former coach Ersun Yanal, who won the title with Fenerbahçe three years ago, the fans urged Yıldırım to resign on Sunday after the derby. After 28 matches, Beşiktaş lead the Super League with 66 points, with Fenerbahçe coming second with 61 points, while Galatasaray are all the way down in sixth with 41 points.The Galatasaray-Fenerbahçe derby was postponed on March 20 following security concerns in Istanbul. The Istanbul Governorate website at the time said the game had been postponed after "serious intelligence" over security concerns was received.
