Iceland battles back to force a 1-1 draw with Portugal in Euro 2016

Iceland snatched a memorable 1-1 draw against European football powerhouse Portugal in their Euro 2016 Group F clash at Stade Geoffroy Guichard in Saint-Etienne late Tuesday.

In the 31st minute, Portugal took the lead as Fenerbahce winger Luis Nani finished in the box, assisted by Andre Gomes from the right flank.

Iceland, however, refused to lie down and equalized in the 50th minute as Basel winger Birkir Bjarnason unleashed a close-range volley to make the scores 1-1. Johann Gudmundsson produced the assist.

In the rest of the match, Portugal pressed for the winning goal but Iceland-making their European Championship debut-hung on for an unforgettable result.
