Ronaldo brace lifts Real Madrid 4-1 past Juventus in historic Chanpions League title defense

Cristiano Ronaldo struck twice as Real Madrid beat 10-man Juventus 4-1 on Saturday to become the first team to defend the title in the Champions League era.

World Footballer of the Year Ronaldo was on target in the 20th and 64th, and Casemiro and substitute Marco Asensio scored the others in the 61st and 90th to give Real a record-extending 12th title overall in the elite event thanks to a dominant performance in the second half.

AC Milan were the last team to win successive titles but their success 1989 and 1990 came before the event changed format to the Champions League in 1992-93.

Mario Mandzukic hit a spectacular 27th minute equalizer for Juventus who had dominated early but failed to win the trophy a third time and instead lost a seventh final, with substitute Juan Cuadrado dismissed late in the game.
