Turkish Super League's silver medalist Medipol Başakşehir earned a 3-3 draw Wednesday in the first leg of third qualifying round match in the UEFA Champions League.

Başakşehir's debut in the most prestigious football tournament of Europe started as a disaster after Emmanuel Bonaventure and Stefano Denswil put Club Brugge 2-0 up within the first 16 minutes at Jan Breydel Stadium.

However, things turned around quickly in the second half as a goal from Dutch winger Eljero Elia, who signed for the Turkish side this summer and played in his first official match, and a brace from Brazilian midfielder Marico Mossoró gave Başakşehir a 3-2 advantage in the 74th minute.

Başakşehir failed to hold on to their win as Stefano Denswil scored his second goal of the night from a low free-kick five minutes after Mossoró's goal.

The Turkish side celebrated the result after the match with their fans taking home the advantage of three away goals getting a step closer to their dream of playing in the main stage of the Champions League.

The second leg of the tie will take place in Istanbul next Wednesday.

Başakşehir, who have just sold wunderkind Cengiz Ünder to Italian giant, Roma, for a fee of 13.40 million euros ($15.7 million), filled its squad with talent ahead of its Champions League tie.

In the summer, the club added Eljero Elia from Feyenoord, Aurelien Chedjou from Galatasaray, Mevlüt Erdinç from Hannover, Gael Clichy from Manchester City, Tunay Torun from Kasımpaşa and Gökhan İnler from Beşiktaş.

Elia cost the club 1.1 million euros and the remaining players were signed on free transfers.
