Galatasaray stay top in Super League
With three wins in three weeks, the Lions remain the only team not to have dropped a single point so far.

Turkish giants Galatasaray extended their unbeaten run this season as they routed Demir Grup Sivasspor 3-0 Friday. With three wins in three weeks, the Lions remain the only team not to have dropped a single point so far and were firmly placed on top in the Super League points tally. Later on Saturday, title-defenders Beşiktaş beat underdogs Bursaspor 2-1 while Akhisar Belediyespor beat Kasımpaşa 2-1 on Sunday. Both winning teams now have seven points from three matches.Meanwhile, the troubled powerhouse Fenerbahçe finally ended a bad patch to register their first win in the league this season, beating Gençlerbirliği 2-1 in Ankara Sunday. For Fener, the win will come as a morale boost after they slumped to two disappointing draws in the first two weeks and were eliminated from the Europa League playoff by Macedonian minnows Vardar. In the meantime, title-hopefuls Trabzonspor suffered a shock 3-2 defeat at the hands of Super League newcomers Göztepe in İzmir Saturday.

Elsewhere, the matches between Aytemiz Alanyaspor and Kardemir Karabükspor, Evkur Yeni Malatyaspor and Antalyaspor ended in 1-1 stalemates. Kayserispor also shared spoils Osmanlıspor in a 2-2 draw. Last year's surprise package, Medipol Başakşehir, on the other hand, beat Atiker Konyaspor 2-1.

Turkish leagues will go into a break as the national team prepare for their world cup qualifying matches. Turkey face an uphill task of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. They are currently third in their qualifying group, two points behind Croatia and Iceland. With four more ties left, they go into an away clash against Ukraine, who they lead on goal difference, on Sept. 2, and then face Croatia in Eskişehir on Sept. 5.
