Newcastle eyes Galatasaray's goalie Muslera

The English Premier League's Newcastle United has shortlisted two South Americans as they plot a January swoop for ex-Manchester City stopper Geronimo Rulli or the 8-million-pound ($10 million) valued Galatasaray star goalkeeper Fernando Muslera, according to The Sun. Coach Rafa Benitez's spies have sent back rave reviews on Rulli and Muslera, the newspaper said. Rulli, 25, is starring for Real Sociedad after joining them from Manchester City, where he never suited up.

The Argentinian has his transfer fee set at 15 million pounds. Meanwhile, Muslera, 31, has more experience and is in fine form for Galatasaray in Turkey, where he has been for most of his career. The keeper would be more of a bargain for the EPL team at around 8 million pounds though Benitez wants to spend on a top stopper in the January transfer window. As for Muslera, the Uruguay international is a hugely experienced goalkeeper who has been on the books of Turkish giants Galatasaray since 2011, having previously starred for Italian club Lazio.

The Magpies have trusted the gloves to Robert Elliott since their return to the Premier League this season. The 31-year-old has managed to keep three clean sheets so far in his nine appearances.
