Fenerbahçe looks to offload Dutch star van Persie

The Fenerbahçe administration is looking for a way to offload its Dutch striker Robin van Persie after his three-year-spell in the club have been marred by injuries and poor performance.

The Dutch star was asked to join training last week but refused to do so claiming he was still injured and needed another week to recover. Reportedly running out of patience, the club administration is planning to sell the player in the upcoming winter transfer window. At the beginning of this season, van Persie refused offers from a number of clubs to stay in Istanbul but has failed so far to justify his decision through a bad spell and injuries. His transfer to Fenerbahçe in the 2015-16 season made headlines in Turkey, but his contribution to the team has been below par. So far, he has played some 4,968 minutes for Fenerbahçe, scoring 40 goals in all competitions.

But this season has been particularly bad as he played only four matches without hitting the nets once. The 34-year-old striker sustained 14 injuries in his three seasons in Fenerbahçe, keeping him out of play for 199 days. Given his 4,900,00-euro annual salary, van Persie has so far earned at least 14,700,000 euros playing for the Yellow Canaries, meaning he has earned 3,000 euros for each minute of play and 367,500 euros for each goal.
